Revival Classic Gorod Korial

A Classic Gorod (Un-degummed Bengal Mulberry Silk) with 6 inches Korial borders with Zari. The body and Pallu have meenakari zari paisleys. A true traditional festive wear. There is only one weaver capable of doing this work and this is probably one of his last handcrafted pieces.  The word “Gorod” means ‘White’ while the etymology may have come from "gond" or gum. Gorod silk saris are distinguished by its red border and small paisley motifs. Silk fabric used to weave traditional Gorod saris is not dyed or degummed which keeps the purity factor of the fabric intact and therefore these saris have a sacred importance to the women in Bengal. Korial is a technique akin to Korvai or Kuppadam, in which the red border is interlocked attached to undyed spotless natural colour silk body using a triple shuttle loom, resulting in extremely fine corduroy texture of the border.
